Thinking about buying a new-to-you car? Here are some tips to help you get started!
Tips for choosing a used car dealer in 1-2-3
Look for an established dealer with a physical location. This goes without saying. If the dealer is located online only, you don’t have much in the way of options as far as looking at various vehicles. Also, if they’ve just set up shop, you may not have the negotiating power, or the financial options, that you would with a well-established dealer.
Registered and in good standing with Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council. The OMVIC’s mandate is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism and ensuring fair, honest and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. Ensuring that your dealer is in good standing provides better protection for yourself.
Find out if the dealer does more than the minimum on safety required and demonstrates that your vehicle is road worthy. This will help ensure that your car won’t break down the minute you drive it off the lot.
Obviously check for good prices. By this we mean not too cheap and not too expensive. You get what you pay for. If the prices are really low, you may just be setting yourself up for disappointment. If they are sky high, obviously you’re going to be paying more than you need to.
Look for a dealer with lots of vehicles. If the dealer stocks a number of quality vehicles that have not been in accidents or have sky high mileage, you can be sure that you have some choice, no matter what you’re looking for.
Can finance your vehicle if you have bruised credit. Many dealers deal with outside lenders, many of whom require at least subpar credit. If your credit is less than stellar, look for a dealer who can offer you options and finance your vehicle even if your credit is bruised.
At Prudent Value Cars, we can offer you all of the above. We have great options when it comes to both vehicles and financing.
