We are more than halfway through the summer now, and if you are like many other Canadians, that summer spending has turned out to be a little higher than you first intended. The camping trips, days at Wonderland, cottage rentals, etc., can rack up quickly. If you’ve reached this point in August and want to scale back a bit, we can help with this great list of cheap things to do in the GTA.
- Check out Sail-in Cinema at Sugar Beach. Whether you have a boat or a lawn chair, you can enjoy a free movie on a huge two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. This year’s theme is book-to-movie. Catch Hook on Thursday, August 18, Jumanji on Friday, August 19 and The Princess Bride on Saturday, August 20. Find out more here: sailincinema.com/home.aspx.
- Catch Prince’s Purple Rain, the last movie of the season at Movies in the Park at Regent Park! It is rated R, so it will be shown behind the Daniels Spectrum building in the MDC Donors Courtyard. It is happening on August 24th.
- Get a taste of Taiwan at TaiwanFest, happening August 26-28. Taking place at the Harbourfront, this amazing event is totally free, letting you experience music, dancing, food and activities without the guilt. Find out more about the festival here: taiwanfest.ca/toronto.
- Get into the green by heading to the Toronto Green Market, the first of its kind in the city. The market features all kinds of awesome eco vendors, including the best in eco fashion, sustainable food, natural beauty and home decor. It takes place Aug 28th at the Great Hall. The perfect outing for all – and of course admission is free.
