We are well into the winter season now, and with the holidays behind us, many of us are looking for cheap and free winter activities to keep the winter blues at bay without breaking the bank. Here is a list of our favourites.
Cheap and Free Winter Activities in the GTA
- Free ice-skating is always a great family activity. With so many different rinks located around the city, it is easy to find one in your area to take advantage of. Whether you’re looking for something inside or out, there is probably one close to you.
- Head to the Art Gallery of Ontario and peruse their permanent collection of artwork. Admission is free on Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 PM.
- Head to the Gladstone Hotel on Tuesdays for TV Trivia Night. Get a team together and have some fun. Admission is just $2!
- Bundle up and head out for a hike at Rouge Park or any of the other trails around the city.
- Take advantage of everything your local library has to offer. Most host free, regular events and of course you can stock up on reading material perfect for a day cozied up in front of the fire.
- Break out that well-loved toboggan and head to one of the many great hills in the city. Christie Pits, Trinity Bellwoods, High Park and Riverdale Park are among the favourites, but there are a ton of others – just remember that city by-laws prohibit sledding in some parks, so check the signage before heading out.
- Check out some new cuisine at fixed prices at Winterlicious. This annual event sees over 200 different restaurants plating up delicious three-course lunch and dinner menus. But hurry, it only runs from January 27th to February 9th.
- Take in some music at the Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre. Artists from around the world share their talent and passion in six series: vocal, piano, jazz, dance, chamber and world music. Concerts take place most Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon, and some Wednesdays at noon or 5:30 p.m.
